Default Still possible for a returning player to get all 50 HoM Points?

Hi i used to play GW back in the day of 05-06 and was wandering if it would still realistic be possible to go from 12ish points to 50 in the matter of say 5-6 months? I recently lost my job so you could say i have a lot of time on my hands and am willing to put in the hours if it is still possible with hardcore play.

I'm thinking that getting all the points for miniatures will be the hardest for me to accomplish. Do you also think getting 50 miniatures will be impossible even with the cash nowadays?

Thanks.

It's certainly possible, people have done it in even less time, but... wouldn't it be a better idea to go seek a new job?

As for minis, they may be an issue, but then - you get a guaranteed black Moa chick and a practically guaranteed Canthan new year gold pet. And ater all, 30 points is easily achievable without a single mini, and material rewards stop at 30.

Yeah i know 30 points is more than doable from what i have read and from looking at other threads but 50 really is my goal.

About the job thing i recently only lost my job last week and i do take a couple hours out each day to browse for jobs but unless your in the same boat as me with hardly much job experience (was in the same type of work for 4 years) and from the UK i doubt you would understand how painful it is to even get interviews nowadays. No offence.

Thanks for the reply

I wouldn't say that you are practically guaranteed to get a new cathan new year pet. Some people have shitty luck and gone through 300+ fortunes without getting one. It's better to say that each year, most birthday minipets go down in value...

What i should have asked is it possible to get 50 miniatures? Because I'm guessing not many people have much more whites to sell? Oh and do they need to be undedicated for them to count towards getting the 50 mini achievement?

Yes, they have to be undedicated. It is certainly possible to get 50 minis, though, if you have the cash. Many people have multiple characters, possibly on multiple accounts. Since duplicate minis do not count in the HoM, then there is nothing that they can do with duplicate birthday presents except sell them. Just take a look at some of the recent mini threads in the Buy/Sell forums here and you can see that minis of all colors from all years are available, not to mention other minis (Canthan New Year, WiK, Strongboxes, etc.).

not only is it fairly cheap to get white minis ~5-10k/ea but if u still had your caras from 05-06 u should have a few extra minis from those birthdays.

Yes, it's going to be expensive to get all 50 minis, but it's also going to be very expensive to get say, Obsidian/Vabbian Armor, and the Zaishen title, (unless you're a master of PvP.) Tbh, I would say getting the minis is NOT going to be one of your largest difficulties.

Getting 50 minipets is very easy, if you buy from trading and auction websites. If you have the money. Don't bother with ingame looking for minipets - it's too tedious, since your minipet collection must contain only distinct minipets - no duplicates allowed.

Make yourself a list of all affordable minipets, start with http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Minipet. Exclude all rare, event or asia minipets. Focus on the yearly birthday minipets, excluding the green ones. As green minipet, create yourself the Black Moa Chick. As gold minipet, buy some cheap 1st or 2nd year gold. Check all you already got.

Focus on these:
There are 8 white minipets for 5 years = 40 minpets
There are 3 purple minipets for 5 years = 15 minipets
+ 1 cheap gold (1st/2nd year) + 1 cheap green (Black Moa Chick)

I just finished buying approx. 35 for my secondary account (I already had 15). It took about a week.

About prices: first I browsed the websites and noted offers in my list. This gave me an overview over the price levels. Then I began to buy from the cheaper offers and ignored the expensive ones.

From my observation, the prices were currently (last week of Oct 2011) like this, more or less:

yearcolorcountprice
1white81-2k
1purple38-10k
1gold230-40k
2white82-5k
2purple323k
2gold230-40k
3white88-10k
3purple325k
3gold2don't buy
4white818-22k
4purple330-35k
4gold2don't buy
5white825-33k
5purple330-70k
5gold2don't buy

It's only an indication, of course. Prices change every hour, and this list is probably already outdated. I bought from german communities. US communities may have other price levels.

Building your hom-points with minipets is dirt cheap, if you compare it with the consumable titles.
If you buy all 50 minipets, the total prices may be like 92k (1st year)+101k (2nd year)+140k (3rd year)+250k (4th year)+200k(5th year)=783k for 8 of 50 hom-points, which is much much much cheaper than any of the consumable titles (buy all 10000 points with 100g per point=1000k).

Well the good thing is i can get the Gladiator title a lot easier than Zaishen one for the PvP statue. For Obsidian i have worked out how many ectoplasm and obsidian i can farm each hour on average and it should take a bit of time but I'll get it eventually. Cheers.

Maybe you have some rare old weapons, in that case I might be able to make you a few hundred ectos if that is the case.
If your not sure about it I'll be glad to help you.

You can get a cheap gold minipet during the Canthan New Year, with just a little luck. Just saying, that might save you a few hundred platinum.

And you can increase your odds (because it does depend a lot on luck) by doing the quests on all available characters. So if they're not already, fill your character slots and get those characters to level 10 by February.
It doesn't hurt to wait on your gold mini until you give this a shot. Unless some major new development happens (like GW2 being released in the next 3 months [highly doubtful]), which causes another HoM panic and prices to spike, mini values should continue to fall.

Other random advice:
Take advantage of the daily Zaishen Quests, which will award you bonus cash, experience, and reputation for doing things you'll probably be doing anyway.

Consider farming for weekly Nicholas the Traveler Gifts. That could be a good source for consumable points (or cash, if you sell the gifts).

And brush up on the latest farming builds to take advantage of the upcoming Special Treats Weekend and Wintersday events (Snowball Dominance is really where it's at).

Dude, I am so sorry you lost your job. I am unemployed as well, and decide to go for 50 for the same reason. The employment situation is far better in the U.S. but still sucks hard. As for the time, 5-6 months can easily be made to happen without too much pvp if you wish. completing masters in all campaigns + skill hunter titles is an easy 11 points. If you start a character in pre ldoa is an easy point. Bringing that character into post will usually net another 100-3000 points in the consumption titles without counting festivals. (using gifts of the traveler). Holidays = synergy title events. The wisdom title can be pursued while farming festive drops. You can stock up now on decayed orr emblems and feathered avirica scalps for wintersday collectors and to get spare materials for consets. This is by far the best time of year to make Gwamm or 50 HOM points. (it also helps to keep your mind off of the boredom of unemployemnt) Good luck on all fronts man.

Sorry, I sometimes forget not everyone has 10 characters to farm the lunar fortunes from quests with.

Even with 10 toons to farm fortunes, it's still possible not to get one. The year of the tiger had great odds (I got three), last year just plain sucked. Went through all of them and didn't get one until resorted to farm tokens.

Realistically best place to start is PvE land.... brush up on you hero builds and do all the missions in NM and HM. From here I would advise going on and doing Vanquisher and Cartographer simultaneously by vanquing a zone and scraping it using texmod. (You could even do these 1 per day with the Zaishen Vanquish/Mission) This should give you plenty of seed money and elite tomes (which you can sell) to get you started. Like others said take advantage of farming events and the weekly nicholas the traveller scavenger hunt to get consumables to build up your 3 consumable titles.

The odds are the same every year you need luck. Year of the tiger I got 0 Tigers from like 800-900 fortunes. Usually the drop rate is around 0.33%
